Welcome to the blogging world!

You have taught two times so far. Your first blog will be a reflection on how it was teaching your small group your song and the five rhythms. What was easy? What was hard? How different do you think it will be when you have to teach a student instead of adults. Try to do this by Friday, February 6. I look forward to looking at your responses.

Chris

PS... Check out the comment to this too. We all have to learn how to use this somehow right? Feel free to respond to this blog to let me know you got set up correctly! Who will be the first to comment?

  6. I am all set. Teaching my song and the five rhythms was not difficult. I did mess up a little when teaching my five rhythms. I do think that if I had to teach my song or the five rhythms to a group of students I would be nervous. I think it would be harder for me to teach because I get nervous teaching children. I am afraid of messing up or looking dumb in front of them all. Those are my major worries when speaking in front of children.

  7. I'm not sure if this is where we are supposed to post our responses to the questions, but here we go anyways. I thought that teaching my song and five rhythms to my classmates was pretty easy. The song was especially easy because I picked a song that my groupmates were familiar with. This helped to make it easier. I think it could be more difficult to teach children if they do not already know the song. Teaching the rhythms was bit more difficult because my group did not know what the rhythms were. I felt ok teaching the rhythms because I had practiced them a little.

  8. So I guess this is where we post our responses to the questions above. The song was not that easy just because no one knew the song that I was teaching so I wanted to go faster than they were able to learn it. I think it would have been easier to do a well known song. I thought teaching the rhythms was easier because everyone knew what to do you just had to teach your own specific rhythm and not how to clap each note. I think it would be harder to teach the information to students but in a way I think it would also be easier because teaching your peers I feel is so much harder than teaching students.

  10. I think I have it figured out!

I thought that teaching the two lessons on the song and rhythms was actually pretty fun. I wasn't nervous teaching them, but I think that was because we were in small groups. When teaching my song, "Cabeza, Hombros, Piernas, y Pies" I thought that it would be challenging since it was in Spanish and I wasn't sure if the group I was instructing knew any Spanish. However, the song is common in English, so my group was able to pick it up right away. I think that teaching a song will definitely be more difficult in the future since younger kids will be unfamiliar with the beats and rhythms of the song. It will also be harder for them to learn the lyrics to some songs. However, using body movements to correspond to lyrics will definitely help when possible.
Teaching the rhythm lesson was also fun, but kind of a challenge for me. I'm still working on learning the music notes and correct counts for them myself, so I had to be sure that I was not making a mistake while trying to teach my group the rhythm. In the future, I think this will be much harder to teach younger kids, although upper elementary might be easier. Hopefully I will have mastered music notes by then!

  12. Hi Chris,
For some reason my computer refuses to log me out of my mother's blog. I have no idea why. I guess this will just have to be linked to her name, unless you have any ideas. Her blog username is NSLepp but it has my blog for music under the account.
    Thanks!

  13. Finally got this thing figured out, sorry it is a little late its been a crazy weekend for me. I thought that teaching my small group wasn't too bad. I knew the girls and was comfortable with them. However, i think that teaching younger students will be completely different. I will need to learn other techniques because they are not going to be able to remember words as quickly as adults (or i wouldn't think they would, i could be wrong haha). Also, the hardest part with the rhythm teaching was writing it on the board. So as a teacher I think i would want to have it written out before the kids got there or do it on a poster board. i hope that I can learn more fun ways to teach music and become better at it.
